Paralyzed Wilkinsburg Ambush Survivor On Charges Being Filed: “Justice Is Done”

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — One of three people shot and wounded in the mass shooting last March in Wilkinsburg says “justice is done” following the filing of charges Thursday against two suspects.

“They finally caught them,” said John Ellis, a survivor of the shooting.

Ellis, 47, was shot three times in the incident. He’s now paralyzed from the waist down.

He was wounded during a cookout in the backyard of a Franklin Avenue home. A pregnant woman, her unborn baby and four other adults were killed.

On Thursday morning, Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala announced that two men already being held in jail, 29-year-old Cheron Shelton and 27-year-old Robert Thomas, are now facing multiple counts of criminal homicide in the ambush.

Ellis, who remains paralyzed from the shooting, told KDKA-TV’s Ralph Iannotti Thursday night, “If my mom has to carry me in my wheelchair, I’m going to be at their trial. I want justice done.”

Ellis undergoes therapy, and is still in a lot of physical and emotional pain.

He does get around a little in a wheelchair.
